Product Photography: Mohawk

In the summer of 2024, I was given the opportunity to work at Mohawk Industries as a photography intern. While there, I was able to strengthen my product photography skills. I took close-ups, as seen on the left; full plank and carpet shots; and photos at different angles. These photos are published on Mohawk's website, as well as Home Depot and Lowes, where Mohawk also sells flooring.

Concept Photography

These two images are based on concepts, with the first referring to solitude and the second referring to speed. For the first photo, I chose to use items that are typically used when someone is sick. This includes medicine, tissues, and disinfectant spray. I aimed to capture an overbearing nature that comes from forced solitude, especially since this was made a couple years after COVID-19 spread across the globe.

The second image, Speed, depicts four falling coins. I chose coins due to the various possible meanings people could create from it. Some example meanings include the literal meaning of coins falling quickly and how quickly money slips away.

While creating this piece, I had to take several shots to get the right image. Even then, I had to make changes. Beyond adding a black and white filter, one of the coins is actually from another image. The coin on the right was taken from one of the other shots I made and edited to fit with the others in the photo. Sometimes, I even forget which one is edited.

Product Photography

I enjoy product photography, especially the type where I am able to frame products in eye-catching ways. The first photo is of Harney&Son's Hot Cinnamon Sunset tea, which is one of my favorite teas. While there appear to be three tins in the photo, I really only used one tin and placed it in different ways. Then I edited them all together and added water droplets to signify water being poured in the tin to make tea.

For this photo, I wanted to try taking an image of a more reflective surface. I also aimed to to give the perfume bottle a more romantic feel by continuing the floral theme and adding flower petals around the bottle. This iteration of the photo is actually a mixture of many photos as I had to edit out the reflective light from the flash.

Fashion Photography

I also enjoy fashion photography. As someone who is into fashion on my own, as well as with character design, fashion photography is a fun way to express myself. The left image was geared towards Elle magazine while the left one has more of a Vogue, high fashion feel.
